Kjartan Søderberg is a Danish artist based in Copenhagen. He holds a BA in Fine Art from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (2016) and an MA from the Luca School of Art in Brussels (2022).

The praxis of Kjartan Søderberg is based on a painterly exploration of archetypal imagery often taken from Western mythology, scripture and fable. The works are created through a material-centred approach to painting, where the layering of different textiles and paint create a surface of airy tactility, from where elusive figures embedded in and below the picture plane emerge. Through a synthesis of abstract and figurative form language, the work questions notions of atemporal authority, morality and meaning of the image.
