In his work, Willem van Hoof aims to demonstrate the ability of forgotten techniques, products, and materials. He’s interested in a raw style of working with materials, trying to bring his objects to life. For the artist, a good product must have a mind, body, and soul. The mind ensures functionality, the body ensures aesthetic appeal, and the soul imbues it with character. Yet, this essence often gets lost in the apparent perfection of mass production.
