Mette Nisgaard has a dualistic practice: drawing as a private and intimate activity on one side, and large public art projects on the other. The focal point is essentially the same; she is very concerned with the tactile and the material, with a strong emphasis on fine lines and details. Whether she is drawing or creating larger public art installations, she consistently focuses on materials and creating sensory spaces. Most recently, she has used sensory spaces as agents of change in public areas. Here, she explores the dynamics at play when art must perform in public spaces—not just as art to be observed, but as art that aims to transform and engage.
